What trends do you think will shape the future of electric vehicles in Brazil over the next few years?
**Interview with Alexandre Baldy, Senior Vice President of BYD in Brazil**
**Interviewer:** Congratulations on BYD’s impressive record of 7,401 electric vehicle sales in October! What do you attribute this achievement to?
**Alexandre Baldy:** Thank you! We believe our success stems from a combination of factors, including our commitment to innovation, the expansion of our product range, and the growing acceptance and demand for electric vehicles in Brazil. The Dolphin Mini, for instance, showcases our ability to provide an affordable and convenient option for consumers.
**Interviewer:** The Dolphin Mini sold 2,808 units, positioning it as Brazil’s most popular electrified model. What do you think drives consumers towards this model specifically?
**Alexandre Baldy:** The Dolphin Mini offers a unique blend of design, efficiency, and affordability. It appeals to a broad audience who are looking for a practical and eco-friendly vehicle. Plus, its compact size makes it ideal for urban environments.
**Interviewer:** The Song family led the plug-in hybrid market with 2,340 sold. How do you see the future of hybrid models in the Brazilian market compared to fully electric vehicles?
**Alexandre Baldy:** Hybrid models play a crucial role in easing the transition to full electric as they offer a familiar driving experience for those hesitant to make the leap. I believe both hybrids and fully electric vehicles will thrive simultaneously, catering to different consumer needs and preferences.
**Interviewer:** Given the rapid growth in electric vehicle sales, what challenges do you foresee for BYD and the industry in Brazil?
**Alexandre Baldy:** While the increasing acceptance is encouraging, we face challenges such as the need for a robust charging infrastructure and overcoming consumers’ range anxiety. Additionally, economic factors can impact purchasing decisions. However, we’re dedicated to tackling these challenges head-on.
**Interviewer:** With such remarkable achievements, some might wonder: Is the Brazilian auto market entering a phase where electric vehicles will dominate, or will traditional combustion engines continue to hold their ground? What do you think?
**Alexandre Baldy:** That’s a fascinating debate! It’s certainly a pivotal time for the auto industry. I believe electric vehicles will increasingly take a larger market share as more consumers recognize their benefits. However, the transition will take time, and traditional engines may still play a significant role for a while. It’s important to have a balanced approach that supports all types of vehicles during this transition period.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Alexandre, for your insights! It’ll be interesting to see how this debate unfolds in the coming years.
