Amman – Jordan’s King Abdullah II and US President Joe Biden discussed on Friday the “dangerous” developments in Gaza, and the efforts being made to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire and end the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
This came during a phone call between the two sides, according to a statement by the Jordanian Royal Court, a copy of which was received by Anadolu Agency.
The statement said that King Abdullah and Biden discussed “the serious developments in Gaza and the efforts being made to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire and end the humanitarian crisis in the Strip.”
The King of Jordan stressed the “necessity of stopping the war on Gaza immediately, and ensuring the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid through all crossings and its delivery to civilians in various areas without any obstacles or delays.”
In turn, President Biden praised Jordan’s “exceptional” efforts in enhancing the humanitarian response in Gaza, according to the same statement.
The two leaders discussed developments in the West Bank and the need to support the Palestinian National Authority, with the King calling for “the need to stop all unilateral (Israeli) steps, attacks by extremist settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.”
The Jordanian monarch reiterated “the importance of the United States’ role in creating a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.”
Biden stressed that “his country will continue to support Jordan as a key partner in efforts to enhance security and stability in the region,” according to the same statement.
