The municipality of Apopa, in the northern area of San Salvador, will receive an investment of $150 million from the World Bank to carry out one of the main construction works of a new “by-pass” that will speed up traffic from the northern area and Honduras, reducing severe congestion when entering the capital.
Public Works Minister Romeo Rodríguez confirmed that the project design is complete and construction will begin soon, complementing the multi-level Integration step to establish a logistics corridor to San Salvador.
According to a preview of the environmental impact study on the next road project, the construction of an additional 10,655.12 meters of road is planned, including access sections and bypasses. This plan includes the construction of 12 overpasses to facilitate the intersection between the Troncal del Norte highway and the Panamericana Este highway (known as the highway to Quezaltepeque), as well as the construction of a bridge over the Las Cañas River.
The projected section will be located between the municipalities of Ciudad Delgado, Apopa, and Tonacatepeque. It will begin on the Oro highway, between the communities of San Pablo and Los Elías, and will culminate at kilometer 16 of the Troncal del Norte highway, near the detour to Tonacatepeque and the community of La Muralla.
