By Law, Santa Fe adheres to the Day of the organ donor – El Protagonista Web

At the initiative of the provincial deputy and president of the UCR Block, Silvana DiStefano, The Legislature approved the project by which the province adheres to the national Law 27,575 that declares August 29 as “Organ Donor Day.” For this reason, the front of the Legislature was illuminated in orange throughout the week.

“This type of statement undoubtedly helps to raise awareness of the figure of the organ donor, giving him or her and their family a primary place and recognition, and also helps to raise awareness about this altruistic act,” argued Di Stefano, who is also the promoter of reflection and awareness days on the subject.

Through the approval, the date is also incorporated into the School Calendar of the Ministry of Education, in order to promote the implementation of activities and projects, with the aim of reflecting on and raising awareness about donation. In addition, all municipalities and communes are invited to adhere to the law.

It is worth remembering that on August 29, 1999, a traffic accident in the city of Rosario claimed the life of Antonella Trivisonno. Faced with this incident, her parents made the decision to donate her organs to save other lives.

“This act of solidarity, unusual for the time, was an example and above all, a lesson about the meaning of being a donor, and for this reason this date was chosen,” explained the president of the UCR Block.

“We must raise awareness and provide the population with knowledge about the organ donation process,” The legislator added, and stressed the need to provide tools to society through talks, workshops, cultural events, brochures, textbooks and all kinds of explanatory material on the subject, using different communication channels.

Silvia and Alejandro, Antonella’s parents, were in the Legislature this Thursday, when the Senate gave final approval to this law. It is worth mentioning that since the death of the six-year-old girl, the entire family began to get involved in awareness campaigns about the importance of donating organs and saving lives.

After the Senate session, Silvia assured that “Donation is an attitude towards life and not a decision in the face of death. That is why we say that we donated Antonella’s organs because of how she lived and not because of how she died.” In the same sense, she stated that “among many other things, donating has to do with decisions and with exercising the right to choose what I want to do. It has to do with giving ourselves, because donation does not only refer to blood, tissues and organs but to the best of me living in another, living in you.” said.

Alejandro, for his part, highlighted the special nature of this August 29 and stated that “By embracing all the donor families, we pay the best tribute to those who allowed someone else to continue living, because in us, they continue to make history.”
