BWB requests fine for Wels-based Mageba

The Federal Competition Authority (BWB) has concluded its investigations into alleged cartel agreements against the Wels-based company Mageba GmbH, the German Maurer SE and its Vienna-based subsidiary Maurer Söhne GmbH. “An appropriate fine has been requested against Mageba,” the BWB announced. Because Maurer has applied for a leniency witness and cooperated, the authority is only requesting a finding of an infringement.

The case concerns roadway expansion joints and bridge bearings in Austria. According to BWB investigations, Mageba and Maurer divided up customers and exchanged sensitive information in road construction tenders between the end of 2017 and the end of 2018.

Mageba belongs to the Swiss Mageba Holding and, according to the company register, had a turnover of 15.4 million euros with 29 employees. The cartel court will decide on the amount of the possible fine.
