Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid – or maybe further Dortmund!?
Sports director Sebastian Kehl (43) will try everything to convince the crowd’s favorite Jude Bellingham (19 / contract until 2025) that there is still another season in the pot and in the to stay in the Bundesliga.
What happens to Bellingham?
Anything but a change of the most valuable player in the Bundesliga (market value: 110 million euros) to a world club is considered unlikely in the summer (BILD reported).
However, there has not yet been a decisive talk regarding the future between the Bellingham party and BVB. Dortmund still has small remaining chances…
Revealed live on TV: summer change? Kehl wants to extend with Bellingham!
What BILD already reported in January was confirmed by Kehl (“Jew is a winner”) in a live interview on Saturday night in the ZDF sports studio: Borussia will fight for its star.
Dortmund squad architect when moderator Jochen Breyer probes Bellingham: “Eventually the player will probably come and say, ‘I want to do something new’. But maybe he’ll also say: ‘No, I want to stay and we’ll extend it’.”
The moderator specifically asks: “Would you extend?”
Throat: “I would try. I’ll try it!”
Breyer digs deeper: “To extend the contract with him?”
Kehl smiles: “Why not?” Applause from the audience.
On January 25, BILD reported on the “spectacular plan” to convince Bellingham to stay. If the Englishman really extends until 2026, according to BILD information, he might even collect around 15 million euros in the future. So far, captain Marco Reus (33/contract until summer) is the leader with 12 million euros. Bellingham would be the historically highest paid BVB professional.
As with ex-BVB star Erling Haaland (22/moved to Man City last summer), Kehl did not rule out the possibility of including an exit clause in the contract, which might then take effect from 2024.
As a reminder: Bellingham switched from Birmingham City to BVB in 2020 for a transfer fee of 25 million. And the mega-talent (currently around 6 million annual salary) was able to exceed the high expectations from day one. In the meantime, Bellingham has played 22 international matches (1 goal) and is on the way to becoming a world star.
► Kehl was more cautious regarding the future of Captain Reus and Mats Hummels (34/contracts expire in the summer). Discussions with both players and their environment have begun. He wants a decision in March to ensure clarity. Exit still open…
► And if Dortmund (table leaders overnight) becomes champion, then? Kehl: “We will demolish Borsigplatz!”
