Borussia Dortmund are plagued by new injury concerns: Captain Emre Can had to be substituted shortly before half-time in the Champions League game in Newcastle due to an injury between his right knee and thigh. The 29-year-old was first brought off the pitch by two supervisors, then made another attempt, but immediately gave the signal to change. Salih Özcan replaced Can.

“Emre received a blow, in the traditional sense a horse kiss. He said: “He has never felt such pain,” explained coach Edin Terzic following the 1-0 win. It is unclear whether Can will be available once more on Sunday (3:30 p.m.) in Frankfurt.
Even before kick-off, BVB had to cope with bad news: alongside Julian Ryerson (cold), Julian Brandt had to miss the game at short notice due to thigh problems that stemmed from the Bremen game. Marcel Sabitzer came into the starting line-up for him.
