IN the blessed month of Ramadan, the Sam Poo Kong Semarang Foundation responded to the high price of rice by holding a program to redeem rice with generous payment.
On Wednesday (20/3), hundreds of residents of Semarang and surrounding areas filled the Agung Sam Poo Kong Temple, Semarang City, not to worship, travel or watch festivals, but to buy rice at affordable prices.
Chairman of the Sam Poo Kong Foundation, Mulyadi Setiakusuma, explained that this activity was a form of tolerance towards residents who were fasting, especially in the midst of difficult conditions due to high rice prices. Initially, the concept was to sell rice at a cheap price, namely IDR 15,000 per package containing three kilograms. However, due to the positive response from residents, the concept was later changed to payment based on sincerity.
To welcome Ramadan, the Sam Poo Kong Foundation provided five tons of rice which was divided into 1,600 packages. Every resident who gets a distribution coupon can immediately exchange it for rice. Hopefully this activity can provide assistance to residents in need. (Z-10)
