Several searches and arrests of suspected thieves and receivers were carried out on Wednesday in Huy, the spokesperson for the Liège public prosecutor’s office, Catherine Collignon, said on Thursday followingnoon.
The Huy police zone was confronted with a significant number of burglaries and various thefts perpetrated in the city center of Huy as well as on the outskirts of the Meuse city.
The local police judicial service was immediately mobilized, taking charge of monitoring the phenomenon.
“A careful and long-term investigation revealed an association active in theft but also in the concealment and resale of stolen goods,” explains Catherine Collignon.
Around forty local and federal police officers carried out six searches on Wednesday, in private homes and businesses. These led to the seizure of several dozen stolen goods, including bicycles, tools and various other objects.
During this operation, narcotics, money and weapons were also seized.
Several suspects were arrested and deprived of their liberty.
The judicial authorities have requested the placement of judicial seals on several establishments where violations have been noted.
Four arrested people were presented Thursday to a Liège investigating judge who decided to place two of them under arrest warrant.
