Some say that these months have been better than December 2023, a date they expected to have greater movement.

For businesses on the main avenue of 25 de Marzo, in San Félix, there is a slight improvement this first quarter of the year, compared to 2023.

This is the case of Olivet Brito, who has dedicated himself to the wholesale and retail sale of bread for five years, in this part of the city.

He assures that the wholesale shipment has been the most requested to date. Bags of French, round, Colombian, canilla or sobado bread cost around 20 bolivars for five packages or more and the retail cost is Bs. 25.

Brito in interview with FIRST Remember that last year they only prepared one and a half bags of flour for making bread, but this 2024 the quantity increased to two bags due to the arrival of more customers.

Although the numbers have improved, Brito started this week selling coffee and sugar teas for ten bolivars per 100 grams, due to the demand for this product in the sector, which generates extra income for his small family business.

Chicken and eggs

A few meters from Brito’s store is Samuel Prieto, in charge of a small, well-stocked warehouse. There, the most requested items by customers are El Palmar cheese at Bs.260, half a carton of eggs at Bs. 110, and chicken at Bs. 140.

According to what Prieto said, he agrees with Brito regarding the improvement in sales at the beginning of 2024, following highlighting that in December it was not what was expected.

Regarding groceries such as rice, pasta, sugar and coffee, they have had good sales, “a little bit of everything is sold,” he says.

Oil change

Other businesses did not suffer the same fate at the beginning of the year. Liliana Bellorín, manager of a store that sells automotive lubricants, describes the months of January and February as difficult.

However, so far in March they are seeing a “respite.”

Bellorín mentions that they have offers on the sale of oils for $3.5, and filters between $3 and $5 depending on the brand and vehicle.

Despite the strategy, he adds that the competition is tight due to the number of nearby businesses on 25 de Marzo Avenue.
