Burundi participates in the African Senior Taekwondo Championship which takes place in Kigali, Rwanda, in the “Kigali Arena” multidisciplinary hall, from July 13 to 17, 2022. Burundi is represented by thirteen athletes, four girls and nine boys. The Burundian delegation expects good results.
Cyprien Bigirimana, president of the Burundian Taekwondo Federation told the newspaper Le Renouveau du Burundi that thirteen athletes including four girls represent Burundi at the African Senior Taekwondo Championship which takes place from July 13 to 17, 2022, in Kigali, Rwanda. This championship attracted participants from regarding forty countries. It will also showcase associated disciplines of Taekwondo such as Poomsae and Kyorugi.
Medals, expected results
Mr. Bigirimana maintains that these Burundian athletes have prepared well as usual in the manner of international competitors, to go and face other taekwondo athletes from the African world. Regarding the expectations of the Burundi Taekwondo Federation, given the experience of the countries participating in this competition, he is optimistic. He said that, given the training and preparations carried out by Burundian athletes, many medals will be won. Medals are their expected results. Regarding Burundi’s statistics in international taekwondo competitions, Mr. Bigirimana mentions that this is the eighth time that Burundi has taken part.
Remember that the African taekwondo championships are generally organized every two years in different African countries to decide between the best African taekwondo players. The previous championship took place in Senegal and the first edition took place in 1979 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. At that time, in Africa, the championships of this Korean sports discipline “taekwondo” were reserved only for men. The women’s events were integrated from the year 1996.
