Burning mattress: The HFW Villach was on duty today together with the Vassach fire department and the St. Ruprecht fire department.

Shortly following 4 p.m., the Villach City Fire Department Control Center was notified of smoke development in a room on the first floor of an inn in the Villach district of St. Ruprecht.

Within a very short time, a fire engine from the main fire station in Villach was dispatched together with the Vassach fire department and the local St. Ruprecht fire department. After a brief investigation of the affected apartment by the breathing apparatus team from the main fire station, a still glowing mattress and bed cover were identified as the cause of the smoke. Fortunately, there were no people in the apartment at the time, reports OBI Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the main fire station in Villach.

Larger Fire Was Prevented

The mattress was taken outside and then completely extinguished. Finally, the dangerous smoke was blown out of the apartment using two high-performance fans. A larger fire was prevented by the early detection of the smoke development and the rapid deployment of the fire brigade, according to OBI Regenfelder. The Villach police are currently investigating the cause of the fire. The above-mentioned fire brigades were deployed with 6 vehicles and 30 men.
