Burned down empty house in Bischofshofen

In Kreuzberg in Bischofshofen (Pongau) a building was on fire on Friday night. According to the police, third-party fault cannot be ruled out.

On Friday evening shortly after 10 p.m., the Bischofshofen fire brigade was alerted to a building fire in the village of Kreuzberg. A fire broke out in the attic of a vacant farm building. A bright glow of fire was visible as soon as they moved out. Operations manager Hartmut Wetteskind therefore immediately raised the alarm to level 2, which also alerted the Werfen fire brigade. When they arrived at the scene, the roof of the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Two breathing protection teams went into the building to routinely search for people, but due to the advanced stage of the fire they were only able to penetrate to the first floor and had to stop the operation a short time later. The fire was then fought in a comprehensive external attack with seven tubes and a turntable ladder.

After the fire was brought under control, the roof structure had to be removed to continue fighting the fire. The fire brigade was supported by a local earthmoving company with an excavator. This work was completed around 1:30 a.m. The post-extinguishing work and the subsequent fire watch lasted until the morning hours. The exact cause of the fire could not be determined for the time being, as reported by the Salzburg police department. Further investigations by the police are still being conducted. Third-party negligence cannot be ruled out.
