Despite the burkini ban in the swimming pools of Grenoble (Isère), recently confirmed by the Council of State, women were able to bathe in full swimsuits this Thursday. Alain Carignon, elected opposition, indicated on CNEWS to have seized the prosecutor and the prefect of Isère. The latter affirms that “exchanges” with the city of Grenoble are in progress.
New twist in the burkini affair in Grenoble. Speaking on CNEWS this Friday, the opposition municipal councilor Alain Carignon announced that he had seized “the public prosecutor and the prefect of Isère” regarding the “burkini operationconducted Thursday in a swimming pool in the city.
Yesterday, some women were indeed able to bathe in a full swimsuit in the Jean-Bron municipal swimming pool. The town hall allowed them entry on the grounds that they were wearing “close-fitting” clothing, as health and safety instructions require.
According to Alain Carignon, the “burkini operation” contravenes the judgment of the Council of State of June 21 confirming the decision of the administrative court of Grenoble to ban the burkini in municipal swimming pools.
“exchanges” between the prefecture and the city
In a press release released this Friday, the Isère prefecture explained that “the conditions under which this access was authorized are the subject of exchanges with the City of Grenoble whose agents have, at the same time, refused access. access to other women who contravene the municipal regulations in force following the decision of the Council of State rendered on June 21.
The former mayor of Grenoble had previously asked the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, to suspend the current mayor Eric Piolle (EELV) “in application of the law on separatism”.
Despite the decision of the Council of State @EricPiolle allow women to enter #burkinis at the municipal swimming pool #Grenoble In application of the law on separatism, I ask for its suspension to @GDarmanin https://t.co/uNtKzHL67D

As a reminder, in an order of May 25, 2022 confirmed in June by the Council of State, the administrative court of Grenoble had suspended article 10 of the swimming pool regulations of the city of Grenoble which authorized the wearing of bathing suits not near of the body shorter than mid-thigh (as is the case for the burkini).
A snub for Eric Piolle, EELV mayor of Grenoble and favorable to the wearing of the burkini, who had however ensured “take action” dand the decision.
