The President of Burkina Faso, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, had a working session with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) mediator for Burkina Faso, Mahamadou Issoufou, who hailed the openness to dialogue of Burkinabè political actors.
Arrived Friday in Ouagadougou, Mahamadou Issoufou had a working session with the Prime Minister and certain members of the government, and conducted a series of meetings with representatives of political parties, religious authorities, the National Youth Council, and with a delegation of the Francophonie.
“During all these meetings, I listened carefully and with great interest to the analyzes that each and every one makes on the very difficult situation that Burkina Faso is going through,” said the ECOWAS mediator. , according to a press release from the Burkinabè Presidency.
According to the same source, Issoufou said he noted a convergence of views of the various actors on the need for a sacred union in the fight once morest terrorism, national reconciliation, inclusive dialogue at all levels, and the return to the democratic order.
“We have notably examined the case of former President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, as well as the timetable for the transition”, specified the mediator.
“While welcoming the availability of President Damiba and his government as well as their openness to dialogue, Mahamadou Issoufou underlines that he will report to the summit of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of African States in West scheduled for Sunday, July 3, 2022 in Accra, Ghana,” the statement added.
This is the second visit by the ECOWAS mediator, Mahamadou Issoufou, to Burkina Faso following his appointment on June 4th.
