In the statement made by the Presidency of the Republic, it was announced that general mobilization has been declared in order to fight effectively once morest terrorist attacks since the beginning of the year.
The declaration specifies that the objective of the mobilization is to define a legal framework for all the measures to be taken within the framework of the fight once morest terrorism.
While no details have been given on the modalities for implementing the mobilization, some sources have suggested that a state of emergency might be declared in the regions most affected by terrorism.
In Burkina Faso, one of the world’s poorest countries, terrorist groups linked to Al-Qaeda and DAESH in neighboring Mali have carried out frequent attacks since 2015.
More recently, 44 people were killed in attacks on two villages near the Niger border last week, and 51 soldiers were killed in another attack in the north in February.
Due to the increase in attacks, the Chief of the General Staff was changed at the beginning of the month and Célestin Simpore was appointed to this position.
