Two people in Florida were arrested following one of them call 911 for help getting their belongings out of a house that was being burglarizedauthorities said.
Deputies arrived at a home last Saturday following a 911 call was made but no one answered the door, said the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Agents concluded that no one lived there, but later a male suspect and his girlfriend were found inside the homefollowing the agents entered through an open door.
Deputies had been searching for the male suspect following identifying him on security video as a shoplifter at a Dollar General store in Poinciana, Florida, where several items were stolen earlier that day, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Poinciana is regarding 35 miles south of Orlando.
While speaking with the officers, the suspect told them that had called 911 with the purpose of getting the police to help them get their belongings out of the house they were robbing. They also wanted a ride to the airport so they might spend the weekend in New York, the sheriff’s office said.
“Deputies DID help them with their belongings and DID give them a ride, but he did not go to the airport…he went to the Polk Pokey,” the sheriff’s office said. in a Facebook post. “And they are welcome to stay there all weekend. The Polk Pokey is way better than New York anyway,” making a reference to the prison.
The male suspect was charged with one robbery related to the store, and another from a residence. The female suspect was charged with burglary of a residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
