Now it’s time to run or bike up the mountain: the Graubünden mountain railway Grüsch-Danusa will not be able to start operating in the coming summer season. The reason for this are the required transformer parts that cannot be delivered due to the war in the Ukraine. Other Swiss mountain railways are not affected for the time being.
The gondola will be at a standstill this summer, confirmed Mario Davatz, director of the Grüsch-Danusa mountain railways, to Keystone-SDA in a report from “20 minutes”. The plan would have been to operate the railway in July and August. Due to the missing transformer parts, however, the necessary revision might not be carried out. Therefore, the train cannot be operated.
Similar problems with other railways?
Berno Stoffel, Director of Keystone-SDA Cable Cars Switzerland, wrote in an email that no other cable car company was known in Switzerland that might not operate due to similar problems. “The safety of the guests is the top priority for the cable cars and if the demand for spare parts cannot be met following the revisions of the winter season, we unfortunately have to expect restrictions in the summer.”
But you have to put this in perspective, says Davatz. The sales from the summer business are far below those of the winter business. He immediately made it clear that the 22/23 winter season would not be affected by this failure: “We have the guarantee that the parts will be delivered by next winter. If that doesn’t work, we have an alternative ready with another supplier.”
The restaurants on the mountain are still open from mid-June to the end of September for everyone who would come up by bike or on foot, says Davatz. (SDA)
