Kofi Schulz (14th), Sandi Ogrinec (28th), Thomas Sabitzer (37th) with a hand penalty shot out the clear Watten lead in Innsbruck in the first 40 minutes. Lustenau then increased, but scored too late through Anthony Schmid (48th) and Anderson (93rd).
After two defeats, the WSG scored three points once more, and Thomas Silberberger’s team improved following the first game of the second half of the season over Lustenau (9th) to eighth place. The Vorarlbergers under Markus Mader now have four defeats in a row and are now seven games without a win.
WSG quickly takes over the helm
The locals quickly determined the game on the Tivoli. The ball was already in the Lustenau goal in the second minute, but Ogrinec was offside in front of his goal. Silberberger had tried to take the fast Bryan Teixeira out of the game with Zan Rogelj on the right in the back four. For tactical reasons, Raffael Behounek was only on the bench. Fabian Gmeiner, who was recently ill, was back at Lustenau, otherwise the starting eleven was unchanged.
Again and once more, the WSG launched dangerous advances. After almost a quarter of an hour, the Tyrolean leadership was there. After a corner kick, Schulz headed a pass from Dominik Stumberger over the line and wasn’t bothered by Matthias Maak’s high foot. Things shouldn’t get any better for the Lustenauers. First, Cem Türkmen had to leave the field, his substitute Torben Rhein then fell dazed following a body check by Valentino Müller. The midfielder was able to continue for the time being.
Goal conceded has an effect on guests
Overall, the goal had a clear effect on the guests, Wattens created clear conditions. Ogrinec scored with a scraper following Hakim Guenouche hit his keeper Domenik Schierl in an unfortunate attempt to clear. Before that, Schulz had escaped opponent Gmeiner from a quickly played free kick. At the WSG Dominik Stumberger had to leave the field injured following a tackle by Anderson on his calf, Behounek came. Sabitzer’s 3-0 came following Stefano Surdanovic raised his fists on a reflex. Referee Harald Lechner decided on a penalty following studying VAR.
Lustenau was hard served at the break, coach Mader reacted with a triple swap and a system change. So came Schmid, who didn’t need three minutes to introduce himself to the WSG. The striker’s goal was initially denied due to a foul play, but Lechner then pointed to the center. The promoted team had more vigour, Anderson headed over the goal shortly followingwards. Despite all the efforts, the second goal should not be there for too long. Also because Schulz should intervene decisively once more. The left-back cleared in front of the line following a shot from Schmid (82′) and saved his team-mates a shaky finish. Anderson’s goal came too late for the unrewarded Vorarlbergers.
