LAST-MINUTE-LEVERKUSEN!

As so often in the last championship season, Bayer decides a game in the last second.

For a long time it looked like a confident opening victory.

First of all, coach Xabi Alonso can rely on two of his top stars! Granit Xhaka and Wirtz opened the season with two great goals!

12th minute: Xhaka shoots from around 23 meters, hammering the ball in at 129 km/h.

A shot like a line to make it 1-0 – a fantastic start for the champions!

Gladbach, on the other hand, was caught off guard. Borussia actually held up well and created top chances for themselves.

But: Leverkusen will be celebrating again next!

38th minute: Wirtz gets the ball from a rebound, shoots and hits the near corner. That’s 2-0!

Bitter for Gladbach: Shortly after Leverkusen’s second goal, Tim Kleindienst scores what appears to be the 2-1 equaliser (43′).

According to the VAR images, referee Robert Schröder disallowed the goal due to a foul. But: Gladbach has tasted blood – and actually manages a comeback!

First, central defender Nico Elvedi (27) brings the team of coach Gerardo Seoane (45) back into the game.

58th minute: The Swiss player’s header from a free kick is initially blocked by keeper Hradecky, but he scores with a follow-up shot to make it 2-1.

Five minutes before the end of regular time, Borussia finally equalizes!

85th minute: Kleindienst is served in the penalty area and leaves Hradecky no chance as he falls. That’s 2:2!

The final point? NO! Because Leverkusen once again struck masterfully at the end…
