BUMP OF CHICKEN toured at a live house for the first time in regarding 3 years since “BUMP OF CHICKEN TOUR 2019 aurora ark” held in 2019. A total of 12 performances were held as a tour following the 25th anniversary live held at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall in Chiba this July.
Motoo Fujiwara (Vo, G), Hiroaki Masukawa (G), Yoshifumi Naoi (B), and Hideo Masu (Dr) appeared on the stage while a packed audience watched from the start time. Fujiwara raised his guitar high, and the other three raised their fists powerfully at the fans. After a moment of silence, the first song performed was “Acacia”. Fujiwara shouted, “I missed you!” “K”, in which the audience surrendered themselves to the world of sprinting, comfortable beats and heartrending lyrics, and “Astronomical Observation,” which was brilliantly played amid sparkling laser beams, followed one following another to fuel the uplifting feeling of the venue. was unveiled.
Fujiwara looked over the packed venue and asked, “Are you okay? Is there anyone who’s not feeling well?” thanked the silent audience. “I might cry if I talk (laughs), so I won’t talk,” said Fujiwara, singing “Nanairo” instead of words. PIXMOB’s 7 colors of light made Masukawa’s sparkling guitar sound even more gorgeous.
Masu shook the shaker in the intro, and Masukawa and Naoi snapped their fingers in “Flare,” and the powerful chorus work of the four of them worked together to impress the audience. After finishing “66 Route”, Fujiwara looked back on this tour and said, “It started in Sendai, and in the middle of it, someone got coronavirus… When I look back on the memory of that time, my head thunders…” , revealed his thoughts at the time when the danger of canceling the performance was imminent due to his own new coronavirus infection. On the other hand, Masukawa asked the floor regarding the fans of BUMP OF CHICKEN, who are regarding to celebrate their 27th anniversary, “Anyone who wasn’t born when they formed?” Thank you for finding me,” he called out.
“It’s a high hurdle to MC following Hiro-kun… (laughs),” said Naoi with a bitter smile. “In winter, it’s easy to run out of lip balm. The lip balm comes out (laughs)”, inviting fans to laugh with “There is winter”. Even Masu, who doesn’t usually do MC, called out lively from behind the drum set, “Thank you, please enjoy yourself until the end!”
In the second half, the four performed the song “Toumei Hikosen” from the album “COSMONAUT” released in 2010. Surprised the audience with this song, which was performed live for the first time in regarding 10 years, this time he performed his latest song “SOUVENIR”. Fujiwara moves back and forth across the stage, encouraging the audience to clap. When the sense of unity in the hall increased, the four performed the ballad “Hana no Na” and changed the atmosphere at once. Fujiwara did not play the guitar, but held a handheld microphone and sang enthusiastically. Fujiwara, who pointed to the floor many times, sang, “There is a day that can only be made with you,” with different lyrics, conveying his thoughts to the fans who gathered at the venue that day.
At the end of the main story, “Arue”, “GO”, “ray” and upper tunes are thrown in succession. Just before, Fujiwara said apologetically, “If I use a handheld microphone on a whim, the staff will fix it in a hurry (laughs)”, but in “GO”, he used the microphone once more so that he might not control it. He held it in his hand and yelled, “It’s nice to meet you, Tokyo!”
In response to the applause of the encore, the four of them reappeared on stage and softly played “Merry Christmas”, which is perfect for this season. After creating a sentimental mood in the hall with his warm ensemble, he once once more drew the audience into a frenzy with “Garasu no Blues.” During the ending chorus, which would normally be accompanied by a loud chorus from the audience, Masukawa and Naoi put their hands on their ears and headed towards the floor as if they were listening to the feelings of the fans who were unable to speak out.
After Masukawa, Naoi, and Masu left the stage following the performance, Fujiwara revealed his thoughts on this tour, which followed the Makuhari performance, and commented on the trajectory of the band in its 26th year, saying, “I feel very proud. However, there are times when I want to complain. There have been many times since the old days when I thought, ‘I can’t convey what I thought.'” Fujiwara, who revealed his feelings at milestones such as his major debut and his first tie-up decision, said, “Let’s keep that kind of feeling, but don’t ignore it. Then I won’t be able to see everyone for three years because of Corona. I didn’t think it would turn out like that, but if I hadn’t stopped playing music, I would be able to do a live show for the first time in three years. When I think regarding it, I think I was absolutely right.”
“I am proud of this BUMP OF CHICKEN sign. Masukawa, Naoi, and Masu also appeared, and a spectacular performance unfolded, as if they were colliding with their thoughts over the past 25 years. Finally, the four performed “Diamond”. Fujiwara concluded the tour with a smile, saying, “The four of us are BUMP OF CHICKEN. It’s the band you chose. We’ve even created a new song! Someday we’ll throw it out into the world, so be sure to catch it!”
