After the mayor of Bulnes, Guillermo Yeber (ind.-DC), was placed in preventive detention within the framework of the “Cuentas Corrientes” case; The fate of the main position of the commune will suffer the same fate as in San Ignacio and Ñiquén, where the respective councils had to elect an alternate mayor from among their members in an extraordinary session specially called for this.
This, because the communal chiefs exceeded the legal period to be absent from their duties, which is 45 days, due to the time granted for the investigation and the precautionary measures applied to each of them.
In the case of Bulnes, a commune where the political forces are balanced in the council (three councilors from the right and three from the left), the names that initially emerged were those of Gonzalo Bustamante (ind.-RN) and Ricardo Pavez (PPD ).
However, as the days went by, Bustamante, the first majority of councilors in 2021, positioned himself, who would have already gotten the votes.
The extraordinary session was scheduled for tomorrow, Friday at 10 a.m., and the councilor who obtains 4 of the six votes will be elected. In the event of a tie, the vote will be repeated until the substitute is elected.
Bustamante with advantage
“There is high expectation among citizens, however, the mayor who takes office has to have a commitment to the continuity of the processes, especially those projects that were being worked on for the people,” said Gonzalo Bustamante.
Meanwhile, the ind.-Frente Amplio councilor, Mireya Lorca, stated that they have had some conversations, but they have not yet defined anything.
“What we are clear regarding is that we are going to try not to be so partisan, I am independent, we have three councilors from the right, I don’t know if three from the left, but there are two independents and one PPD, therefore, I think we have You have to choose what is best for the community and what the law dictates. We have to carry out the administrative act, the corresponding extraordinary meeting. First we will do the voting, and I hope there is not a tie so as not to continue delaying the commune, I think we have to agree on our political side, that is why we do not have to vote in a partisan way,” he stated.
He added that among the possible candidates, “two work in the regional government and in the Delegation, so I do not think they are available. For this reason, I believe that everything is directed towards the councilor with the most votes being the one who is going to be elected, because there is no way to distort the vote,” he stated.
