Bullshit? Activision demands removal of maps in Fortnite

While Fortnite players are using their imaginations on amazing creations that have changed the game’s standards, Activision seems to have taken a dim view of some of the community’s ideas. The company was bothered by battle royale players recreating Call of Duty maps in the Epic Games game, through the possibilities offered by the free title’s Creative Mode.

The publisher, which may be acquired by Microsoft very soon, asked for the complete removal of content inspired by the Call of Duty games. According to GameRant, Activision’s demand is supported by the DMCA, copyright law in the United States.

Activision’s requirement

With the recently released Unreal Engine editor in battle royale, Fortnite players can create their own maps, offering completely different experiences in the Epic Games title. With that, maps like Shipment and other Call of Duty scenarios were recreated by the community, and logically were successful among players.

Upon becoming aware of the case, Activision demonstrated that it did not like the unauthorized use of its franchise. Mist Jawa, a user who brought some Call of Duty-inspired experiences to Fortnite, recently had his creations removed, as revealed by content creator Jake Lucky on Twitter.

Activision has started removing maps from Fortnite Creative 2.0 for copyright infringement. This means that Call of Duty-inspired maps such as FPS Rust, Zombies and more will no longer be playable as the creators are contacted to remove them.

Fortnite is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and PC. Creative Mode powered by Unreal Engine is free for all players.
