There was an uproar on Facebook because a Lustenberger company car was driving around with a Bulgarian number.
-
Some were convinced that something was wrong.
-
The central Swiss company also received numerous telephone calls.

However, nothing was found during the police check.
A delivery van from the Lustenberger company with a Bulgarian license plate has been causing rumors for some time. However, the company does not own any Bulgarian cars.
Everyone became aware of the van
Maurus Lustenberger, Managing Director of Lustenberger, says: “It was nothing special when we sold the van. A routine business, like any other.” But they soon received a number of confused calls from citizens who had seen the van.
The rumor mill began to simmer, as some residents in the canton of Aargau told Lustenberger: “The delivery truck is always on the move in our neighborhood, and there are always break-ins.” Many people suspect that something is wrong. The kitchen construction company was given the order to report it to the police as soon as someone reveals the location. Lustenberger says: “However, people always reported far too late.”
That’s why Lustenberger published a Facebook post that then spread like wildfire. “By informing everyone, people were able to report directly to the police,” explains Lustenberger. “But the post went viral,” he continues. Almost 40,000 people read the article and the police phones were no longer idle.
Traveling all over Switzerland
The van was seen all over Switzerland, Lustenberger says: “In Winterthur, Basel-Land, in Aargau or in Walenstadt, the van was really everywhere except in Malters.” The police and Lustenberger kept receiving the location of the van from everywhere.
Within one day, the police managed to find the van with the help of an informant. They intervened, but were unable to prove that the two drivers had committed any specific crimes. The police mightn’t find anything suspicious in the van or on her criminal history list.
“We learned from the case”
Since the new owner is not obliged to remove the labeling, Lustenberger cannot do anything. He says: “We have certainly learned something from the case and in the future we will remove the labels before selling a vehicle.” Even now, pictures of the vehicle continue to appear on Facebook in which people speculate regarding the van.
Police explained
The van was sold to a car dealer a year ago. This means that the van has probably been traveling in Switzerland with a Bulgarian license plate for several months.
The media spokesman for the Lucerne police, Yanik Probst, explains: “If you move to Switzerland and bring your car with you, there is a one-year deadline before you have to replace the license plate.”
