Bukele, who did not elaborate or specify further, recalled in a message on the social network This May 7, the Armed Forces celebrates its 200th anniversary.
“Our Armed Forces are turning 200 years old and are regarding to achieve their greatest victory…” he wrote.
According to local press data, The Salvadoran Army has more than 24 thousand active elements -the highest number among Central American countries- of which at least 20 thousand are in security duties along with agents of the National Police.
Since March 2022, El Salvador has implemented an emergency regime to combat gangs in a so-called “war” that has become the main and only security measure for Bukele, for whom Congress approved a six-month license for his political campaign for the February 4 elections, in which he was re-elected for a second consecutive term despite the fact that the Constitution prohibits it.

Within the framework of this regime, the authorities report more than 79,200 arrests and humanitarian organizations have received more than 6,000 complaints of human rights violations, mainly due to arbitrary detentions and torture, and they report regarding 240 deaths of detainees in state custody. .
