The Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, revealed, on Monday, the designs of “The Line” city, in the huge Neom project in the northwest of the Kingdom.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the city revolves around the human being, and represents a leading global model that achieves sustainability and the ideal of living in harmony with nature.
Mohammed bin Salman, who is the chairman of NEOM, launched the idea and initial vision for the city in January of last year.
The line’s designs reflect an environment free of streets, cars, and emissions, and contribute to preserving 95% of NEOM’s land for nature, and relies on 100% renewable energy, to make human health and well-being an absolute priority instead of a priority for transportation and infrastructure, as in traditional cities.
One of the most important specifications of The Line is that it is only 200 meters wide, 170 kilometers long, and 500 meters above sea level. The city will be built on an area not exceeding 34 square kilometers, and will accommodate regarding 9 million people, which is completely unprecedented in cities of this size, according to “SPA”.
According to the project, “The Line” allows all residents to access all facilities and services within 5 minutes, in addition to the presence of a high-speed train that connects the two ends of the city within 20 minutes.
Mohammed bin Salman said: “When we launched “The Line”, we promised to redefine the concept of urban development through the development of human-centered societies, and today “The Line” achieves the ideal of living and addresses the urgent challenges facing humanity. These exceptional designs illustrate the internal structure of the city It is multi-layered and addresses the problems of traditional flat horizontal cities, achieving complete harmony between urban development and the preservation of nature with all its resources.”
He added: “We cannot ignore the environmental crisis as well as the way of life crisis facing the cities of the world. Therefore, we seek in NEOM to be at the forefront of providing new and innovative solutions. Today, we are determined to implement the idea of ’build to the top’.”

According to SPA, The Line offers a new approach to city design that focuses on the concept of “zero gravity”, which means distributing and building the city’s components in the form of vertical layers, allowing people to move in the three directions (up, down). , as well as horizontally on each side).
Unlike the concept of high-rise buildings, this idea makes it easier to move between locations of daily needs, from workplaces, schools, parks, and homes, within five minutes.
The two outer sides of the city are covered with mirrored glass surfaces that give it a unique character, allowing its details to merge with nature. While the interior spaces are designed in innovative ways, to create extraordinary experiences and unforgettable moments, through a team of world-renowned architects and engineers who work with the NEOM team on an ongoing basis.
A few days ago, the American Wall Street newspaper reported an extensive report on Saudi Arabia’s plans to build a skyscraper extending for 120 km in the form of two parallel structures, which will be the largest in the world, crossing mountains and desert and including residential complexes, a football field and other huge facilities, according to the newspaper “Wall Street”. Street Journal”.
The newspaper said that the project, which was called “The Mirror Line”, comes as part of the “NEOM” project announced by the Saudi Crown Prince years ago.
The newspaper added that when bin Salman ordered the authorities to develop the arid lands in the northwest of the kingdom, he demanded to build something as unique as the pyramids in Egypt.
In response, planners came up with the world’s largest structure in the form of two buildings that are regarding 480 meters high and extend parallel for 120 kilometers across coastal, mountainous and desert terrain, and connected by corridors, according to hundreds of pages of classified planning documents obtained by the newspaper and detailing the idea for the first time.
The newspaper quoted people familiar with the plan, and details contained in the documents, that the cost of the project will reach one trillion dollars and a capacity of regarding five million people.
If finally completed, the “mirror line” will extend from the Gulf of Aqaba, bisecting a mountain range that runs along the western coast of the Kingdom.
