The best local young building builders demonstrated their skills and specialist knowledge at the building academy in Haindorf/Lower Austria from October 8th to 10th. The 23 best young specialists worked on their competition construction site under high pressure and under the eyes of an expert jury.
The task: the creation of a masonry structure with the appropriate base design, rough and fine plastering. Furthermore, exposed brickwork and formwork including reinforcement had to be manufactured. The participants also had to demonstrate their technical, theoretical knowledge during a two-hour written test. Technical calculations, technical drawing, materials and building materials science as well as occupational safety were on the program.
A 12-member jury evaluated both the appearance and precision of the workpieces. Every millimeter deviation from plumb meant a deduction point. In total, each participant had a total of 450 points for their workpiece, with the theory part earning another 50 points.
After a thorough evaluation of the works, the results were clear: Matthias Wallinger from Salzburg took first place after three demanding days. He is followed by Filip Uhl from Styria and Alexander Pfeffer from Burgenland. As a reward for their strong performance, the top three will receive a check for 2,000 (1st place), 1,500 (2nd place) and 1,000 euros (3rd place).
Federal Guild Master Robert Jägersberger: “Being here is a strong achievement, because only the best of the best take part in the national competition. The construction industry needs the best specialists because the construction and maintenance of buildings requires highly qualified employees. Our companies train them as part of the trial training together with vocational schools and our eight BAUAcademies. Training in construction therefore plays a fundamental role and as an interest group we take this into account through our many measures.”
The aim of the national competition is to highlight the performance of the participants and, moreover, the high quality of the trial training in construction.
