This is how the stations of Line 2 of the Lima and Callao Metro (ATU) are built
In December 2023, stage 1A of Line 2 of the Lima Metro was inaugurated. With this megaproject, the authorities seek to benefit millions of citizens, however, in the midst of the uproar over this beginning, they received a wave of criticism since the enabled subway stations only cover 5 kilometers of the Santa Anita district.
In total, there are 27 terminals that must connect Callao with Ate Vitarte by crossing 13 districts in just 45 minutes. Currently, only the Evitamiento, Óvalo Santa Anita, Colectora Industrial, Hermilio Valdizán and Mercado Santa Anita stations are operational.
It should be noted that the service, announced in 2012, has been working for free as it is white label, which will last until March 2024 for a period of 90 days.

According to the head of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), Rául Pérez Reyes, the next three stations on Line 2 of the Lima Metro, which are part of stage 1B, will not be inaugurated in 2024 or 2025.
Along these lines, he informed the media, following witnessing the arrival of the Delia tunnel boring machine at the Manco Cápac station, in La Victoria, that the new terminals (Vista Alegre, Javier Prado and Municipalidad de Ate) are already completed, but the The delay will be due to the work on its architecture and installations of the system equipment.
“We are working to have the first three stations ready and operating in the first half of 2026 so that we have a total of eight operational stations,” said the minister.

Although the second part of stage 1B, which covers 8 stations (Plaza Bolognesi, Central, Manco Cápac, Cangallo, 28 de Julio, Nicolás Ayllón, Circunvalación and San Juan de Dios) in the districts of El Agustino, San Luis, La Victoria, Cercado de Lima y Breña, does not yet have an opening date. Pérez plans to finish the work before 2028, if there are no unforeseen events.
“When the work begins to develop, they use ‘cut and cover’ technology. At each station they make a huge trench to develop the infrastructure. There begins to appear a lot of interference, of infrastructure that is not mapped. There you can talk regarding weeks, sometimes months. The same thing can happen with electricity,” he warned a couple of weeks ago.

A few days ago it was reported that the Delia tunnel boring machine, in charge of underground excavation for the construction of Line 2 of the Lima Metro, successfully completed the drilling of a section of 825 meters, which connects the Manco Cápac Station with the Cangallo Station.
This machine, which has already excavated 5 kilometers of tunnel, began its work at the San Juan de Dios station, in San Luis, and has already visited the Circunvalación, Nicolas Ayllón, 28 de Julio and Cangallo stations.
The final objective of ‘Delia’ is to reach the Parque Murillo Station to close Stage 1B and, subsequently, begin the drilling corresponding to Stage 2 to the Insurgentes Station, connecting in that place with the section already completed by ‘Micaela’, the predecessor tunnel boring machine.
It should be noted that the machine that is currently used, at a depth of 20 meters, was named in honor of Delia Tasaico del Pino, the first woman to graduate in engineering in Peru.
The new underground road that the Peruvian capital will have will travel through 10 districts round trip. The work will connect Ate Vitarte, Santa Anita, El Agustino, San Luis, La Victoria, Cercado de Lima, Breña, Bellavista, Carmen de La Legua and Callao in a period of less than 45 minutes.

Line 1 of the Lima Metro needs more trains to continue operating, otherwise it will suffer from saturation. The expansion proposal, which includes the acquisition of 22 new trains, has been presented to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and the Urban Transportation Authority (ATU), under Ositrán’s warning regarding the imminence of time, a report from La República revealed. .
The suggested improvements are not limited to the addition of more trains; They also include the construction of a new interconnection station, the expansion of existing stations, and the modernization of both the electrical system and the equipment, according to said media.

These proposals seek to reduce the frequency of train passage from 3 to 2 minutes during peak hours, increasing the service capacity from 550,000 to 850,000 passengers per day. These initiatives are critical given the projection of service saturation with the incorporation of Line 2.
