A woman who was seriously injured in the collapse of a building on June 21 in Paris succumbed to her injuries overnight from Thursday to Friday, we learned from a source familiar with the matter. This is the second death caused by this tragedy.

The body of another woman was discovered in the rubble on June 27. It might be that of a professor from the private fashion school, the Paris American Academy, located in the affected building.

The second victim “is an employee of the mutual” Saint-Christophe, located at 277 rue Saint-Jacques, the address of the building which collapsed, said the source, confirming information from the Parisian.

With this new death, there are still two injured in absolute emergency, according to another source familiar with the matter. In total, regarding fifty injured had been identified, four of whom were seriously injured.

Since Monday, the investigations have been entrusted to an investigating judge with the opening of a judicial investigation for manslaughter, involuntary injuries with ITT (total incapacity for work) of more and less than three months by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence provided for by law or regulation.

On June 21, at the end of the followingnoon, a building located rue Saint-Jacques had collapsed, following an explosion followed by a fire. The investigations must in particular determine the origin of the accident. The first witnesses heard in the investigation mentioned “a smell of gas”.

About sixty families remain deprived of access to their accommodation and are relocated by social landlords, with relatives or in a hotel, the mayor of the 5th arrondissement Florence Berthout announced on Wednesday.
