“We see a erosion of the global multilateral architectureunilateral measures and sanctions that become the daily norm, an uneven global architecture, and countries that want to have more say in terms of how the new global order evolves,” said South Africa’s ambassador to the BRICS, Anil Sooklal, quoted by Newsweek. He also added that countries in the global south now want to identify more and more with the body.
The senior official stressed that the initial objective of the group was to deal with some key challenges in the global geopolitical economic architecture, as well as trying to create a more inclusive global community that would address the continued marginalization of countries in the global south in a vastly changed world environment.
