Bugworks Research, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, has Dr. Renu Swarup won as an honorary member of the Global Advisory Board. dr medical Swarup is the former Secretary of the Government of India’s Department of Biotechnology and brings over three decades of experience in the biotech sector.
As a member and secretary of the Expert Committee, Dr. Swarup oversaw the preparation of the Biotechnology Vision in 2001, the National Biotechnology Development Strategy in 2007 and Strategy II in 2015-20. She was Founding Executive Director of the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a public sector firm with a particular focus on supporting start-ups and SMEs. By strengthening biotechnology translational research and through industry-academic partnerships, it has supported over 5000 start-ups and nearly 500 small companies to pursue innovative research and product development. She is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)). As a member of the Prime Minister’s Scientific Advisory Committee on Women in Science, she has been an active advocate for women scientists and is a member of the Third World Organization for Women in Science. She played a crucial role in DBT’s response to develop technological solutions to combat COVID-19 in India.
