O iOS 17 arrived last week with a series of new features, improvements, tweaks and, of course, its share of bugs also. One of them, identified by the developer duo Musk [@mysk_co] on X (formerly Twitter), it is resetting two important iPhone privacy settings, without the user knowing, as soon as the new version of the system is installed.

According to them, the affected settings have to do with the device’s location: “Important Places” e “iPhone Review”. The first understands which places the user usually frequents to improve the functioning of various Apple applications, while the second sends usage reports so that Apple can improve iOS.

Both settings can be found at Settings » Privacy and Security » Location Services » System Services. According to the information, not everyone seems to have been affected by this bug, so some people who had deactivated these two options before continue to have them turned off.

Questioned by 9to5Mac, Apple confirmed that it is investigating the case and said that an update should not reset iOS settings without the user’s consent. The company also reiterated its commitment to the privacy of its customers.

In the case of “Important Locations”, Apple says that saved locations are stored on the device itself and encrypted, which means that not even Apple can view them. Even so, the developer duo warns that “although important locations remain stored on your iPhone, they can be abused, as they record detailed information regarding the places you frequently visit”.

iPhone analytics, although they cannot be used to identify a user, can still lead to some privacy implications. The profile ends by saying that security experts advise users to disable these two settings.

Problems with the Weather app on watchOS 10

O watchOS 10 also received its share of bugs this year. Still according to the 9to5Macusers have reported that the system is unable to display weather information on dials that have complications do app Tempo (Weather).

This issue is present in both watchOS 10.0 and 10.0.1 and has been reported on the Apple support forums. Some users even said that they have encountered this bug other times over the last few years, but it seems that the most recent version of the system has only made things worse.

It is not yet clear whether Apple is aware of this problem, but there is already a solution: according to reports, just go to the Apple Watch settings on the iPhone and then to the watch settings; Finally, you need to turn off and on the button that switches between 12 and 24 hour modes. Once this is done, the information should appear normally once more.

In any case, it’s only a matter of time before Apple fixes these two problems. Any news, of course, we will comment here on the website! ????
