Buffalo Sabers general manager Kevyn Adams wants to extend the contracts of Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power this summer. The two young defensemen both have another season under their current contract.
“We see them as really important players and essential parts of our long-term franchise,” Adams said Wednesday.
Dahlin is entering the final season of a three-year, $18 million contract. The 6-foot-3 defenseman had a stellar 2022-23 season following scoring 15 goals and 73 points in 78 games.
The Swede appeared in two All-Star Games and was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2019. He was the first overall pick in the 2018 draft.
Power scored four goals and had 35 points in 79 games, his first full NHL season. He is a Calder Trophy finalist along with Matty Beniers of the Seattle Kraken and Stuart Skinner of the Edmonton Oilers.
The first overall pick of the 2021 auction, the former University of Michigan Wolverines will be in the final year of his NHL entry contract.
