The Buffalo Sabers traded defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2025 4th round pick.
Lyubushkin, 29, played 68 games for the Sabers last season, scoring 2 goals and 14 points. Previously, the Russian briefly donned the Maple Leafs uniform, but is best known for his days under the hot Arizona sun.
Since joining the Bettman circuit in 2018-19, the right-back has scored 5 goals and 34 assists in 279 duels.
Lyubushkin will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the next season, who will command a salary of $2.75 million in 2023-24. This transaction allows the Sabers to meet the NHL’s 23-contract limit. They were the only ones to exceed this plateau.
He joins a defensive brigade where everything is to be taken in Anaheim. Prior to his arrival, only six defensemen with NHL experience were under contract with the Ducks, but prospects Olen Zellweger, Pavel Mintyukov and Drew Helleson are not to be overlooked.
