Asunción, IP Agency.- Of a total of 9,602 billion guaraníes proposed for fiscal year 2025 to the Ministry of Public Health, if approved by the Bicameral Budget Commission, Gs. 4,773 billion will be for salaries and compensation of health personnel and ensure the continuity of professionals in all health services; Gs. 3,328 billion for the purchase of medicines and medical supplies and Gs. 553 billion in infrastructure, which includes the construction of new hospitals and the acquisition of advanced medical equipment.
The head of the Ministry of Public Health, María Teresa Barán, this Thursday highlighted the actions that will be carried out with the resources requested before the Bicameral Budget Commission of the National Congress.
The 9,602 billion guaraníes proposed for next year (approximately 1,269 million dollars) are focused on strengthening health services, increasing the availability of medicines and improving the infrastructure of the public system.
If the proposal sent by the Ministry of Economy and Finance is approved, the health portfolio will receive an increase of 6% compared to 2024. The objective is to guarantee quality care for the 90% of the population that depends on the public health system. health.
Distribution of key resources
4,773 billion guaraníes are allocated to personal services for salaries and compensation of health personnel, which represents 50% of the total budget. This investment is essential to ensure the continuity of the professionals who provide care in all health services.
Regarding medicines and supplies, with an allocation of 3,328 billion guaraníes for the purchase of medicines and medical supplies, a notable increase of 213 billion guaraníes is expected, compared to 2024. This will improve the availability of essential medicines and guarantee the continuity of medical treatments in public hospitals.
Regarding investment in infrastructure, the budget includes an investment of Gs. 553 billion in infrastructure, which includes the construction of new hospitals and the acquisition of advanced medical equipment such as mammographs, ultrasound machines and telemedicine technology.
Strengthening the Health Network
The investment for the Ministry of Public Health also contemplates a significant increase in the budget of hospitals in the south of the country, with increases of 50 billion guaraníes for Coronel Oviedo and 90 billion guaraníes for the Gran Hospital del Sur, in order to strengthen the response capacity of the health system in critical areas.
