After a “budgetary normalization” budget which still included a lot of spending increases last year, Bercy places its finance bill for 2024 under the sign of the restoration of public finances. The offprint, this document setting the ceiling for the evolution of appropriations for each mission assumed by the State, sent to Parliament this Sunday, effectively testifies to a reduction in State expenditure of 4.2 billion euros . This is the first time in about ten years that the budget has followed this trend.

“State expenditure (excluding special allocation accounts for pensions) will fall between the finance law for 2023 and the bill for 2024 in order to initiate a determined path of reduction in State expenditure, debt reduction and reduction of public deficits, underlines the Bercy document. This drop marks an effort that is all the more significant since inflation should remain above 2% in 2024. »
