On September 25, 2023, the book presentation of “Women’s Leadership in Music: Modes, Legacies, Alliances” will take place at the Institute for Cultural Management and Gender Studies (IKM) of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna at 12:00 p.m.
The book is a new edition of TRANSCRIPT – Independent academic publisher in its series dedicated to music and sound culture and is available as open access on the publisher’s website.
The book will be presented by both editors who will come to Vienna for the occasion: Dr. Iva Nenić, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Ethnomusicology, Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade, leader of the recently completed project “Women’s Leadership in Music” funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, and Dr. Linda Cimardi, head of the DFG-funded project “Black Music in the Region of (Former) Yugoslavia” at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
In the role of a discussant, Dr. Anja Brunner, assistant professor of ethnomusicology and head of the FWF project Elise Richter “Women musicians from Syria: performance, networks, affiliations”, at the mdw Center for Music and Minority Research, will be present.
Contributors to this thematic collection also include Ying-Hsien Chen, University of Helsinki; Carol Silverman, University of Oregon; Diane Kolin, York University, Toronto; Talieh Wartner-Attarzadeh, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz; Blanche Lacoste, Jean Monnet University, Saint Etienne; Clementina Casula, University of Cagliari; Laura Hamer, The Open University; Helen Julia Minors, York St John University; Tatjana Nikolić, University of the Arts in Belgrade / Institute for Cultural Management and Gender Studies, mdw; Katarina Mitić Minić, University of Arts in Belgrade; Sanja Ranković, University of Arts in Belgrade; Bahar Gjuka, University of Calgary; Mirjana Zakić, University of Arts in Belgrade; Bojana Radovanović, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Belgrade; Nasim Ahmadian, University of Alberta; Adriana Sabo, Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ljubljana.
The event will be hybrid, with online participation via Zoom and live streaming, and the language will be English.
