“Buch Wien” expects 50,000 interested people

Today the “Buch Wien”, the biggest Austrian book event of the year, starts. Stage talks and panel discussions will take place for a week. According to BUCH WIEN, the aim is to devote attention to the “challenges of the present”.

471 authors and experts from 28 different countries can be heard in the talks at “Buch Wien”. According to the broadcast of the fair, current topics such as the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine, the climate crisis and political correctness will be addressed. The whole thing is distributed over six exhibition stages and 19 event locations in the city. Up to 50,000 visitors are expected. (if the sentence is omitted in the title)

The fair will be opened by the political scientist Herfried Münkler. The “Long Night of Books” will then begin. The cabaret artist Florian Scheuba will lead through the opening night and hold talks with celebrities such as Michael Häupl, Lukas Resetarits or TV legend and ÖBB voice Chris Lohner.

Broad discourse in the format “Book Vienna Debate”

According to “Buch Wien”, well-known people from science, politics, business and culture come together for an intensive, in-depth exchange in the “Buch Wien Debate” format. For example, the complexity researchers Peter Klimek and Niki Popper are mentioned here, the political scientist Peter Filzmaier or the publicist Ulrike Herrmann.

A program is also offered for children and young people at the “Buch Wien”. Around 101 of the 402 events are for them.

The program will be very colorful, not only the stage talks are a big part of the “Vienna Book”. Various publishing houses also present their new releases at the fair. In addition to well-known authors, there are also podcast operators on site. As in previous years, the Austrian Book Prize will also be awarded. This is endowed with 45,000 euros.
