BU Terriers led by Lane Hutson take down Merrimack in NCAA hockey match

Led by their offensive dynamo Lane Hutson, the Boston University Terriers defeated Merrimack 4-1 on Friday night in the first division of the NCAA circuit.

With three assists during the game, Hutson brought his tally to 19 points in 14 games during the campaign. The defenseman was shut out in the last game once morest Cornell to end his seven-game point streak.

BU, which is ranked 4th in the country, signed its 10th victory in 16 games while Merrimack (6-7-1) fell below the .500 mark during the season.

Hutson got his first assist on the first goal of the game. The guard pulled two players towards him near the blue line before passing it to Sam Stevens. The latter’s shot was deflected in front of the net by forward Doug Grimes.

The Canadiens prospect, who was selected 62nd overall in the 2022 draft, made a comeback during a power play. As he knows how to do so well, Hutson opened up a shooting line by patrolling the point and his shot was skillfully deflected by Shane Lachance who scored twice in the victory.

Hutson added his third point of the game by contributing to the insurance goal of top NHL draft prospect Macklin Celebrini, who saw his pass in front of the net deflected by a defender into his own net.

Lane’s brother, Quinn Hutson, also had two assists in the win. For his part, Luke Tuch, another Canadian prospect, was cleared from the scoresheet.

A rare defeat for Jacob Fowler

The Northeastern Huskies caused a surprise Friday night by posting a 5-3 victory at the expense of goaltender Jacob Fowler and the Boston College Eagles, ranked 1st in the NCAA rankings.

The Huskies (4-8-1) took an early 3-0 lead in the first period and Fowler stopped the lead from widening at the start of the second period with a quick move to his right to deprive Northeastern of a goal .

This stop gave the Eagles a breath of fresh air, who tied the game before the end of the period thanks to goals from Mike Posma, Ryan Leonard and Eamon Powel. 1st round picks in the last draft Gabe Perreault, Will Smith and Cutter Gauthier all collected an assist during the period.

Despite some key saves from Fowler at the start of the 3rd period, Cam Lund made the difference in this match. With his second of the match, Lund scored the game-winner with just over six minutes remaining, before completing his hat trick into an empty net in the final moments of the match.

Fowler and Boston College (11-3-1) will be back in action Sunday, once more once morest Northeastern.
