DELAND, Fla. – Concluding the season-opening trip to Florida, the Boston University softball team cruised to a 10-0 run-rule victory over Frank Griffic Classic host Stetson on Sunday followingnoon.

BU (5-0) finished with double-digit hits for the fourth consecutive game, while sophomore Kasey Ricard (2-0) limited the Hatters (0-5) to just two with the help of six strikeouts in five innings for her second shutout.

Nine Terriers collected at least one hit with senior Lauren Keleher, graduate student Caitlin Coker and sophomore Brooke Deppiesse all earning two apiece. Keleher added two RBIs and two runs, while Coker added three RBIs alongside a run scored. Deppiesse reached home plate twice, and graduate student Audrey Sellers plated two runners.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • BU needed little time to grab the lead for good, as Keleher led off to left, advanced to third on Roncin’s single and scored on Coker’s two-RBI single to right center.
  • The Terriers finished with six runs off six hits and an error in the first with senior Lauren Nett and Sellers both plating a run.
  • Coming up to bat a second time, Keleher drove in the sixth run with a one-out RBI grounder to short.
  • After Ricard retired six straight Hatters, BU scored three more runs off a pair of hits and errors in the top of the third.
  • With both Nett and freshman Kylie Doherty in scoring position, Sellers flied an RBI sac fly to right that was followed by Keleher’s RBI single through the right side.
  • Coker drove in her third run by plating Keleher from third on a single to right.
  • Stetson tried to get on the scoreboard in the third with a walk and two-out single, but Ricard ended the threat with a fly out to left.
  • After freshman Livia Christopher and sophomore Haley Ganino both earned their first hits of the season, Metz duplicated their efforts with an RBI single in the top of the fourth for the 10-0 advantage.
  • Ricard sealed the run-rule shutout by striking out the final three Hatters.
