From the summer semester of 2025, the Bertha von Suttner Private University of St. Pölten (BSU) will be offering its first bachelor’s professional degree program in health-oriented social work in cooperation with the bfi Steiermark. Under the motto “Health. Together. “Design.”, the course offering is aimed at experienced professionals in the health and social sector who would like to expand their skills – even without a high school diploma. The new advanced training bachelor’s degree builds on existing practical experience and offers an academic qualification that is tailored to the increasing demands in social work and opens up new professional perspectives.

Future-oriented and practical

With the new advanced training bachelor’s degree, the social work field of study is being expanded with a practical and future-oriented study program. The six-semester course includes 180 ECTS points and ends with the academic degree Bachelor Professional – BPR. The continuing education bachelor’s degree is equivalent to the Bachelor of Arts. The degree also entitles you to take up a further master’s degree.

“Through the cooperation between the BSU St. Pölten and bfi Steiermark, we offer experienced professionals practical and at the same time scientifically based further training that is precisely tailored to the requirements in the social and health sector,” says Sven Rossmanith from bfi Steiermark. “With this offer we would like to actively counteract the shortage of skilled workers and create new career opportunities in Styria through practice-oriented qualification.”

Study organization and part-time structure

The course is organized part-time and includes monthly block events at the Kapfenberg Education Center as well as one face-to-face appointment per semester at the St. Pölten campus. Flexible e-learning phases complement the program so that work, any care obligations and studies can be easily combined.

Admission is based on professional qualifications or relevant professional experience. Those interested can apply until 10 January 2025 Register to start studying in the summer semester of 2025. Online information appointments and personal consultations are also offered.
