THE National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) supports the discourse on the formation of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) cyber force. The discourse is in order to strengthen Indonesia’s resilience to future challenges, especially in the cyber world.

“Yes, of course it is related to government policy, in principle BSSN is the same, of course we will support government policy,” explained Head of BSSN Hinsa Siburian, at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, Monday (2/9).

Hinsa explained that the formation of the TNI cyber force is indeed necessary if we look at the challenges in the international world. “Ideally, with the current challenges, we see the existing challenges, and we also see them in the international world, because the challenges continue to develop, we must be able to adapt to the developments,” he said.

This means, said Hinsa, BSSN does not have a problem with the discourse on the formation of the TNI cyber force. “Why should we have a problem with it, if it is a state political policy,” he said.

Hinsa added that his party has not conducted further communication regarding the discourse on the formation of the TNI cyber dimension. “Not yet (there have been discussions with the Indonesian House of Representatives),” said Hinsa.

Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, assessed that the discourse on the formation of the Cyber Force put forward by the Chairman of the Indonesian MPR Bambang Soesatyo needed to be clarified regarding its main tasks and functions.

The reason is, he said that currently, matters concerning cyber defense and security already have institutions that oversee them, including the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) or the National Police Cyber Crime Directorate.

“Rather than forming a fourth dimension, it would be better to clearly explain the extent of its duties and functions,” said Dave after attending the 2024 MPR RI Annual Session and the 2024 DPR RI-DPD RI Joint Session at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday.

According to him, compared to forming a Cyber Force, it is better to strengthen the quality of human resources (HR) in institutions that handle cyber. In addition, according to him, strengthening also needs to be done in the field of infrastructure and networks.

“That was the priority. If there is a real need and there is a concept, that’s fine. But what we have, we maximize it,” said Dave. (J-2)
