The Swans Gmunden, Oberwart Gunners and UBSC Graz all made it into the semi-finals of the Basketball Bundesliga (BSL) with away wins. The trio prevailed in their “Best of Five” series with 3:1. Champion Gmunden retained the upper hand in the Upper Austria derby once morest the Flyers Wels with 80:76 (35:31). Oberwart advanced in Kapfenberg with a clear 79:49 (45:24). Graz meanwhile prevailed once morest the Dragons in St. Pölten with 86:69 (34:31).
The “Best of Five” series in the BSL semi-finals begins on Sunday. BC Vienna plays once morest UBSC Graz, with the Styrians making their debut in the semifinals. The Swans Gmunden meet the Oberwart Gunners.
Gmunden was slightly ahead of their local rivals for almost the entire season, but the people from Wels never really let themselves be shaken off in front of around 1,000 spectators and a great atmosphere. The game remained extremely exciting until the end. The Swans were led by Daniel Friedrich with 19 points. The top scorer at Wels was 38-year-old Davor Lamesic, who scored 26 points in his 745th Bundesliga game.
