A little over a month ago, five young people from Brussels were imprisoned in Malta because one of them allegedly raped a 17-year-old French girl. They also allegedly kidnapped, mistreated and robbed the girl’s 16-year-old friend.

One of the five defendants partially admitted his presence during the events and was able to leave Malta last summer. The other four pleaded not guilty and spent four months in pre-trial detention before being released on bail on Thursday. This bail was set at 15,000 euros for each of them in addition to a personal guarantee of 50,000 euros, writes Malta Today.
In addition, the four suspects must surrender their passports and cannot leave the country. They must also stay at a fixed address in the port city of Msida and respect a curfew.
