Brussels Tram Line 10 & New Routes: Construction Updates and Expansion Plans

In Neder-Over-Heembeek, the construction site for tram line 10 is in full swing. The rails are being laid, and the public space continues to be transformed along the route of this new line leading to the Military Hospital.

According to the official project website, this line would therefore leave from Neder-Over-Heembeek to reach the city center of Brussels, namely Rogier. But we are told that the new tram line will be extended well beyond the Petite Ceinture.

Stib confirms to us that line 10, once put into service in September, will connect the Neder-Over-Heebeek military hospital to Churchill (Uccle). “The commissioning of a new line is often accompanied by a reorganization of the network”, justifies the company. This extension will notably make it possible to offer a connection between the hospital in the north of Brussels and the Gare du Midi, via the route of line 3, which is incorporated into the new connection. “Line 3 does not ‘disappear’, it merges with line 10 between Churchill and Heembeek”, assures Stib.

No more 25, two new lines

And this is not the only change expected on the Stib tram network. Two new numbers will arrive: 11 and 22. Two lines reorganized following the split of line 25 (Boondael-Rogier), whose route will be cut at Meiser and integrated into the two new lines.

The new tram line 11 will provide the connection between Boondael and Esplanade. “It therefore takes over the tram part between Heembeek and Esplanade, previously operated by line 3. This therefore offers a direct connection between Boondael and Esplanade. The advantage of this new line 11 is that it doubles the tram service between Meiser and Heembeek, where we see that ridership is increasing sharply.”

Line 22 will connect Rogier to Eurocontrol (Nato district). “This offers a new connection between Evere and Rogier. This also means that between Meiser and Eurocontrol there will now be two tram lines: the current line 62 and the new line 22.”

Furthermore, line 62, which today connects the Jette Cemetery to Eurocontrol, will be extended from the Jette Cemetery to Heysel, notably passing through the Brugmann University Hospital. “This therefore means that from Heysel travelers will benefit from two tram lines”, namely the 7 and the 62.
