Brussels Shooting at the Golden Fleece: Drug Trafficking and Police Investigations

2023-12-21 15:28:00

The events occurred around 7:30 p.m. on the second largest commercial artery in the Brussels region, at a busy time. In total, four people were injured, including one victim’s life in danger. A Swedish tourist, member of a political party and working in the European Union, was shot in the knee and took refuge in the Toison d’Or gallery.

The terrorist trail was quickly ruled out. Several judicial sources confirmed that the possibility of a settlement of scores linked to the drug scene had not been ruled out. The deputy public prosecutor referred the charge of attempted murder to an investigating judge, explains the prosecution. But for now, the suspect is still at large. No wanted notice has been published by the federal police.

In order to increase visibility in this district during the end-of-year holiday period, the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police opened a “pop-up store” in the Galerie de la Toison d’Or. The premises, which hosted the police zone’s “Christmas Cop” two years ago, have once once more been set up as a meeting place between the police and traders, local residents and other visitors. “They can come and ask us all their questions, but it is not possible to file complaints in this temporary location,” said the spokesperson.

Furthermore, the police are still actively searching for the four suspects who killed a man with 17 Kalashnikov shots last September in Wayez Street in Anderlecht. The victim had been killed by mistake, the thugs had the wrong target. The suspects fled and their car was found on fire, rue de la Semence, still in Anderlecht.

A few days following the events, the federal police issued a wanted notice but since then, the perpetrators have still not been identified. As part of these two investigations, the police are looking for anyone who has information to communicate regarding the facts or their perpetrators. If you have any information, call the free number 0800/30/300 and for testimonies from abroad, the number is 0032 2 554 44 88. Discretion is assured.
