Yasmine and her son Redouane (first names) have received their eviction notice. Next week, the 56-year-old mother and her 33-year-old son are due to return the keys to their social housing in Anderlecht. Yet another rent arrears got the better of the patience of the managing company. “We always had to make choices between paying the rent and paying the bills. The hospital always asks us to pay the bills in advance. We found ourselves in this gear. I contracted several loans but, this time, the company decided to maintain the expulsion for one month of arrears”, explains Faiza (37 years old, first name of loan), the eldest of the siblings. Their lawyer, Melvin Ouedraogo, notes: “The CPAS will pay the arrears. There is no economic harm, but society still wants to deport because “enough is enough”. Coincidentally, the Housing Committee of the Brussels Parliament approved a draft ordinance on Thursday which aims to further prevent home evictions in the capital.
