Brussels New Year’s Eve Traffic and Celebration Updates: Street Closures and Access Information

In order to celebrate the new year and ensure the smooth running of the festivities, including the traditional fireworks display at midnight from the Place des Palais, certain streets in the capital will be closed to traffic for New Year’s Eve, the city informed on Thursday. Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police.

Spectators are invited to present themselves, as early as possible, in one of the four areas provided for this purpose – and access to which will be on foot. The public will be able to attend the festivities in zone A (place des Palais, with access via rue Royale), B (place du Trône, accessed via the Porte de Namur and boulevard du Régent), C (the royal park , via rue Royale or rue de la Loi) or D (rue Ducale between rue Zinner and rue Lambermont, with access to rue de la Loi).

Several streets will also be closed to traffic on December 31, namely Place des Palais, from 2 p.m., as well as Rue Ducale (between Rue de la Loi and Boulevard du Régent), from 8 p.m. From 9:00 p.m., rue Royale (between rue de la Loi and place Royale), boulevard du Régent (between rue Lambermont and rue Ducale) and rue de la Pépinière (between rue de Namur and place du Trône) will be also blocked.

From 11:00 p.m., traffic will also be prohibited on avenue des Arts between rue du Luxembourg and rue Belliard, in the same way as rue Montoyer, from rue du Commerce to avenue des Arts.

“To get to or travel to Brussels on New Year’s Eve, we strongly advise you not to come by car and to use public transport,” insists the police.
