The Vlaams Belang criticizes the mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close (PS), for having decided to put an end to a counter-demonstration near Place Albertine where the party is organizing its protest meeting “Make them listen” on Sunday at 2 p.m. .

“In 20 years that I have participated in demonstrations and protest meetings, I have never experienced this,” reacted the president of Vlaams Belang, Tom Van Grieken. “If this degenerates, the mayor of Brussels will bear a heavy responsibility.

The protest meeting “Doe ze Luisteren” of the Vlaams Belang will take place this followingnoon from 2 p.m. This meeting is the culmination of the “Doe ze Luisteren” march, during which Mr Van Grieken traveled from Ostend to Brussels in ten days.

Last week the mayor of Brussels, Mr. Close, has decided to prohibit the meeting, which led the party to seize the Council of State. The Council of State agreed with Vlaams Belang and decided that the protest meeting should be allowed.

A counter-demonstration by the Coalition Debout was also authorized by the Council of State. It will be organized on the Poelaertplein and will end at the Chapelle skate park one hour before the start of the Vlaams Belang event. “Everyone has the right to protest, but it’s very dangerous,” Van Grieken said. “There are people in the protest who are clearly determined to use violence.

According to Vlaams Belang, Mayor Close bears a heavy responsibility if things go wrong. The party therefore holds him personally responsible.
