Brussels March Against Anti-Semitism: Thousands Unite Against Hate

The march once morest anti-Semitism, organized this Sunday followingnoon at the call of three organizations, the CCOJB (Coordination Committee of Jewish Organizations in Belgium), the Forum der Joodse Organisaties and the Belgian League once morest Anti-Semitism is underway in Brussels.

Participants gathered at Place de la Chapelle at 2 p.m. before setting out to walk a few streets of the capital to reach Place Poelaert where speeches will be held. They thus headed towards rue des Minimes, where the Jewish Museum is located, and rue de la Régence where the Great Synagogue of Brussels is located.

As the procession set off, our teams on site estimated the number of participants at around 4,000 people, a figure later confirmed by the police.

The Jewish organizations initiating this march note “with concern regarding the physical attacks once morest Jews as well as the release of anti-Semitic speech at work in our streets, on the screens and in the comments of citizens and elected officials.

In the crowd the participants were of all ages, coming alone or with family. Lots of people, personalities too. Members of several political parties had announced their arrival. The presence of representatives of the MR, PS, Ecolo and Défi parties was thus observed by our teams. All this once morest a backdrop of Belgian flags and signs “Don’t touch my Jew!”, “Unity once morest anti-Semitism is strength”. Everyone, with their nuances, was there to march once morest anti-Semitism. “I find this particularly worrying. I think it’s important that the average citizen can show their opposition to a filthy ideology“, explains a participant. “I am a practicing Catholic, but I belong here. This is not a demonstration of Jews for Jews“, reacts another demonstrator. “You see, I wear my yarmulke under my cap“, explains another, before adding “I would never dare cross Brussels, nor Liège, nor Verviers with my kippah like that. So I protect her under a cap“.
